There will be 11 Qualitur flags flying across the coast which signal to tourists that the quality, services and environmental management of each of theses beaches is second-to-none. The newly received flags were presented by the mayor together with representatives of the three council departments responsible for obtaining the quality labels for the beaches, Jose Antonio Aniorte, Pepa Ferrando, Councillor for Tourism, and Gines Sanchez, Councillor for Environmental Quality.
Issued by the Valencian Agency of Tourism and the Ministry of Tourism, the banderas qualitur scheme recognises the beaches that have been certified as outstanding in terms of quality and environmental management. These flags are hallmarks that symbolise the efforts made by the coastal municipalities of the region, in terms of improved facilities and services for those specific beaches.

The Region is the first in Spain to be awarded flags for number of municipalities, with 42 of its 60 award-winning coastal towns being rewarded. It is also the second in the country for the number of certificates issued, with 103 for a total of 141 beaches.
Orihuela received 11 of the flags and the Mayor was keen to announce that as far as awards for the coast is concerned, she has recently been informed that Orihuela has also been awarded 6 internationally recognised Blue Flags for: Playa Flamenca, Cala Capitan, Cabo Roig, Campoamor, Barranco Rubio and Mil Palmeras and a new Blue Flag has been awarded to the marina Puerto Deportivo de Cabo Roig.
